New Delhi , 17th April 2008

| Dr. Anil Kohli, President Dental Council of India (DCI) and Prof. V N Rajsekhran Pillai, Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) during the press conference held on 16th April 2008 gave introduction to these new courses . The two new courses are PG Certificate in Endodontics and PG Certificate in Oral Implanatology.

| |
|
These two courses are in open and distance learning mode and are going to be started from July’08. There will be a combined entrance examination for the admission which is scheduled to be held on 1st June’08. Both the programmes are of one year duration; however there is flexibility to complete the programmes in maximum duration of three years. The main benefit of these programmes is that one does not have to leave their practices and work place area except for the contact program as these programmes are through open and distance learning system. No age limitation is there to join the course and even fresh graduates can apply.

| |
|
There are 12 centres for oral implantology and 15 centres for endodontics and each centre will admit 6 students for these programmes. The Dental Council of India has decided to start these PG Certificate courses for BDS Graduates since there is no opening for BDS Graduates except MDS Course and that too has an exorbitant fee structure. The university will extend all possible help so that more and more students get benefit out of this.
